Scouting

The Scout Movement is a global, co-educational youth organization and the largest of its kind, with over 28 million members in 216 countries and territories.

In the UK, Scouting is organized through The Scout Association, which has a clear purpose:
To help young people reach their full physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential as individuals, responsible citizens, and active members of their local, national, and international communities.

The Scout Association provides a range of everyday (and some unique!) adventures and activities to nearly 500,000 young people across the UK.

Scouting is open to all young people aged 6 to 25, of every faith and background, as long as they are willing to make the Scout Promise. Several versions of the promise are available to reflect different faiths and nationalities.

Adults also have many opportunities to get involved as Leaders, Assistants, Administrators, or Group Supporters. If you’d like to join our Scout Group, please contact one of our Group Leaders.

As a member of our Group, we hope to support your child in making a positive impact on the world. Scouting contributes to society by helping young people develop as active community members who:

Are self-reliant,
Are caring,
Are responsible, and
Show commitment.
This ongoing personal development is most effective when young people work in partnership with adults. They do this by:

Taking part in a variety of activities and new experiences,
Exploring the outdoors,
Working in teams,
Taking on responsibilities, and
Participating in the Progressive Programme.

The Programme in Scouting offers a continuous progression of training, activities, and awards that guides young people from ages 6 to 25. Each stage in the Programme is designed to match the developmental needs of different age groups, enabling a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience across all Sections.

The Programme is organized into key thematic areas, which include:

Outdoor and Adventure: Encouraging exploration of the natural world and the development of practical skills through diverse outdoor challenges.
Global: Cultivating an understanding of international issues, cultures, and perspectives to foster global citizenship.
Community: Promoting community engagement and responsibility through activities that emphasize social impact and support local causes.
Fit for Life: Focusing on physical and mental well-being to support lifelong health and fitness habits.
Creative: Providing opportunities for expression through various forms of art, innovation, and problem-solving.
Beliefs and Attitudes: Encouraging young people to explore and reflect on their values, beliefs, and personal attitudes.
Each of these areas plays a pivotal role in shaping a well-rounded experience, ensuring that young people in Scouting are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world around them.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
