Date: 19th Oct 2020 Author: Stuart Kidd

April 2019 – April 2020

Well what a year Chestnut colony had!

We had 20 beavers in this scouting year and I’m amazed at how much we managed to squeeze in!

May 2019 Chestnut and Oak colony attended bevers go wild, what a exciting camping weekend the beavers had a few things we did were climbing, go-karting, archery, science experiments and many more fun activities.

When we were at beavers go wild, we attended a section which was Scouts against Malaria. With the beavers finding out many details about this they asked me if they could help.

In June, the beavers were given a smartie tube, in return for the yummy chocolate the beavers were given a task to fill up the tube of smarties by doing jobs around the house. After 4 weeks of collecting we collected £64.24p for Scouts against malaria and they were awarded a badge each. A huge well done

In July Chestnut and Oak Colony had another chance at camping… This time Magic Camp! Many activities again with making bread, wants, armpit fudge, spiders web, science experiments, archery, and many more fun activities. We had a magical campfire and our District Commissioner stopped by for a visit.

In July we said goodbye to Jemma who was the assistant beaver leader and wished her good luck on her University journey. Josh and Alex moved up to Cubs and Josh Gained his Bronze award. Chestnut’s 1st ever award!

September 2019 Chestnut colony turned 1 years old! So we celebrated by booking Archery with Rik from the district team coming to assist and teach the beavers.

October followed another treat and we attended Sandown Ski and did Ringo.

Following this we had a visit from the guide dogs where the beavers raised £24, a visit from nurse Jane where they got their first aid badge, Group camp fire at Boidierhurst, District beavers visit to RAF Hendon, Remembrance Sunday Space camp at the scout hut, a Cooking day where the beavers cooked a 3 course meal for their parents and served it we also raised over £70 for the acoustic lining for the scout hut. We ended the term with a big xmas party!

We started the new year with a bang, learning to send texts, emails, learning new skills like lighting a candle, tying our shoe laces, working on our health and fitness.

One of the last activities in March we had District Beavers Badge day at Fetcham Scout hut, and we had around 10 beavers from Chestnut colony attend this day and earn between them over 20 badges. Massive well done!

Since the national Lock down we have been attending zoom firstly set up by district doing fun activities online. After Easter we managed to set up zoom for chestnut colony and have been running many activities to keep us all busy. End of April we had our first ever online St Georges day where 4 Beavers from Chestnut colony got their Bronze award!

Here is to the next exciting scouting year and Stay safe!
